Privacy policy
Forrestdale Tools (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we handle it, and how you can access or correct it. It is written to align with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. What we collect
- Identity and contact — name, email address, phone number, billing and delivery address, business name and ABN where supplied
- Order information — items purchased, order value, order history, correspondence with us
- Payment information — processed directly by our payment providers. We do not collect or store your full card number. We receive only confirmation of payment and the last four digits
- Technical and usage — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring site, and similar analytics data collected via cookies
We do not collect sensitive information (such as health, biometric or political information) and ask that you don't send it to us.
2. How we collect it
Directly from you when you place an order, create an account, email or call us, sign up to our mailing list, or request a quote. Automatically through cookies and analytics tools when you browse our website. Occasionally from third parties such as our payment providers or freight carriers in the course of completing your order.
3. Why we use it
- To process, fulfil and deliver your orders and issue tax invoices
- To communicate with you about an order, quote, back-order or return
- To process payments and detect or prevent fraud
- To provide customer support and respond to enquiries
- To improve our website, product range and service
- To send marketing communications where you have opted in
- To meet our legal, tax and record-keeping obligations
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as necessary with:
- Shopify, which hosts our online store and processes orders on our behalf
- Payment providers (including Shopify Payments and PayPal) to process transactions
- Freight and courier companies, to deliver your order — this includes your name, delivery address and phone number
- Analytics and advertising providers such as Google, in the form of website usage data
- Our email and accounting providers, for communications and financial record-keeping
- Professional advisers, regulators or law enforcement, where required or authorised by law
5. Overseas disclosure
Some of the providers above store or process data outside Australia — Shopify, for example, hosts data in the United States, Canada and the European Union, and Google processes analytics data in the United States and elsewhere. By providing your information to us you consent to this disclosure. We take reasonable steps to ensure these recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, but overseas recipients may be subject to different laws.
6. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies — small files stored on your device — to keep your cart working, remember preferences, and understand how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site (including checkout) may not work correctly if you do.
7. Marketing and how to opt out
We only send marketing emails to people who have opted in. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and we action unsubscribes promptly in accordance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Opting out of marketing does not stop transactional messages about an order you've placed.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls limiting staff access to what's needed, and reputable providers who maintain their own security standards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Data breaches
If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will investigate promptly and, where required, notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
10. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, or as required by law — including Australian Taxation Office requirements to retain financial records for at least five years. When no longer required, we destroy or de-identify it.
11. Accessing and correcting your information
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it's inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Email sales@forrestdaletools.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable period, normally 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. If we decline a request, we'll tell you why in writing.
12. Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, contact us at sales@forrestdaletools.com.au and we will investigate and respond, normally within 30 days.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on our website, with the date it was last updated shown below.
